Brick and Stone Pointing

The recession of joints is inevitable over time when it comes to historic structures. This is due to weathering and this can lead to significant damage to buildings. Modern solutions such as cement have recently been used to repoint historic structures which can be detrimental to the historic fabric. The driving force of the rain onto the exterior surface seeps through the brick and cement, not been permeable can trap the moisture. This trapped moisture will disintegrate the face of the brick or stone, this is also known as spalling. When this occurs, your building is more susceptible to further damage and with nowhere else to go, this moisture travels internally and can be devastating, not only structurally but financially, as costs of repairs both internally and externally can be expensive.

Brick and Stone Repairs

Revamp Conservation offers a unique brick and stone matching service. We take great care in selecting the appropriate brick or stone from our salvage yards to perfectly match your structure.

Firstly, we will assess the structure to see which approach is the best response to the repair. In many cases the brickwork on the external structure may have deteriorated due to weathering causing cracks and perishing the brick, which is known as spalling. If this does occur, it is wise to tend to the issue immediately before the damage becomes more widespread.

Chimney Stack Repairs

Chimney stacks generally serve at the highest point of the building. This means they are more exposed to the elements and because of this, they tend to be more weather-beaten. If your chimney stack isn’t maintained and is neglected, this can pose a serious threat for you and the general public as they can be an accident waiting to happen.

Commonly, the issue with a chimney stack is pointing been eroded. Although, this may not sound too serious, if overlooked it leads into severe problems such as water penetration which encourages plant growth and causes disintegration and instability.

Second example after paint removal

Paint Removal

Not only do Revamp Conservation Ltd clean and restore brick and stone. We also provide a service that removes built up paint from all historic structures.

Paint that has been applied for years to freshen structures can hide a multitude of sins. Overtime, the paint will weaken the masonry until it becomes soft and begins to crumble and fail.

Condition Assessments

We provide consultancy services for historic structures, including detailed masonry and mortar analysis. Our condition assessments are designed to evaluate the current state of a building, identify potential risks, and recommend the most appropriate conservation strategies.

By combining expert knowledge with a practical approach, we ensure that historic buildings are preserved with respect for their original fabric while also meeting modern safety standards.

Brick and Stone Cleaning

After a period of time, the exterior surfaces of buildings will become soiled and dirty because of one or two reasons which are either environmental particles or biological growth. Visibly this may not pose a threat but aesthetically it fails and can be seen as neglect and ignorance.

Generally, this is not seen as a major problem, unless it is covering signs of deterioration.

If biological growth is visible and covering deterioration, the likelihood is that the trapped moisture has caused the deterioration and not the biological growth. In saying this, the biological growth may add to deterioration as it keeps the surface moist which increases the risk of corrosion.

Modern Cultural Heritage Conservation

When people think of cultural heritage, they often picture castles, cathedrals, or centuries-old townhouses. Yet, our more recent past—the twentieth and twenty-first centuries—has produced buildings, public spaces, and architectural styles that are equally important to preserve. These structures represent the social, cultural, and technological progress of modern society, and safeguarding them is an increasingly important part of conservation work.

At Revamp Conservation, we specialise in the conservation and repair of modern cultural heritage, ensuring that valuable architectural landmarks from the recent past are maintained for future generations.
