After a period of time, the exterior surfaces of buildings will become soiled and dirty because of one or two reasons which are either environmental particles or biological growth. Visibly this may not pose a threat but aesthetically it fails and can be seen as neglect and ignorance.

Generally, this is not seen as a major problem, unless it is covering signs of deterioration.

If biological growth is visible and covering deterioration, the likelihood is that the trapped moisture has caused the deterioration and not the biological growth. In saying this, the biological growth may add to deterioration as it keeps the surface moist which increases the risk of corrosion.
